TO HAVE BOOKS IS A CRIME. REPORT IT!
A mystery man named Santiago Pena has just arrived in Portugal, where he will have the opportunity to meet a girl in love with stories, her name is Alice, the young girl is despised by her parents and doesn't understand why books are banned. Committed to bringing books back to Santiago, he strives to make people understand the importance of having a book in hand.
A very strong friendship develops between Alice's parents and Santiago, affectionately called by the girl "grandfather of letters". Santiago always has a new story to tell Alice, after the dinners offered by the Crastinos. But what was Santiago's real intention with the return of books? And why does the foreigner seem to arouse dangerous longings in Alice's family?
& #8220; We must resist everything that dehumanizes us, and the elimination of good old stories, from books, is the right recipe for dehumanization. & #8221;
What relationship would there be between the story of a young Brazilian accused of a cruel crime that he claims he did not commit, and the story of Santiago? Sumptuous architectural projects and the discovery of an abandoned library? All this in the midst of a society that decides everything by luck, bans books and believes in the dangerous C gene.
The book is divided into three parts, each narrated from a different point of view. We have the narrative of the young Alice, who has a more childlike look at things and the narrative of Santiago that presents us with the past and the present. The story is full of small details that link to other books and other areas of knowledge, making the reader even more curious. “The Silence of the Books” presents us with a dystopian world not far from our own.
Oh, and never forget “Hurry up slowly”.
