The silence of books brings us a reality where books are prohibited, and whoever owns them is committing a crime subject to imprisonment. The story is divided into three parts: in the first, we meet the girl Alice, who loves stories. She misses her grandmother, her uncle, the stories they tell and the shelves full of books. Alice lives with her parents and her older sister in Portugal, a family where each one lives in their own world, and that doesn't pay any attention to Alice, referring to her all the time only as Menina.
.
.
The second part takes place in Brazil and we meet Hilário, his sad childhood and the circumstances that lead him to a sad fate for many years. The passage I most liked about his story is the beginning of his friendship with the Portuguese António, and the transformation of the Biblioteca de Babel, where literature transforms the lives of Hilário and other people. In the third part, we return to the story through Menina's eyes, and her beautiful friendship with the mysterious Santiago.

For those of us who love books, it's impossible to imagine a world without them and their stories. However, recent events worry us, such as the censorship of LGBTQ-themed books at the Bienal do Rio last year, the attempt to ban classic books by the Rondônia State Secretariat and the Rio de Janeiro school that threw books that it received as a donation. through the window.

Through The Silence of Books, the author brings us important reflections on how technology has dominated people's lives, causing them to lose interest in the search for knowledge, letting technology dominate their lives, even influencing the taking of decisions.
