How about a reflection today?
In just over 200 pages, Fausto Lucciano Panicacci narrates a dystopian reality in which books are seen differently – or not so much – from how we know them today, physical books are banned, knowledge is edited, think of a wikipedia only more broadly, this is mainly due to the oppressive rule the characters are subjected to.
But then the uncle ended up in prison for collecting books and all the volumes were destroyed, leaving only the one, with stories, that the grandmother had managed to hide in the old sewing machine.
It is thus divided into three parts that we meet Alice Crástino, a small girl very attached to her late grandmother and the stories that make her dream about times of freedom, in which she ends up losing her precious asset, a story book that her grandmother had hidden long ago. and that keeping books is illegal, leaves her mother, Louise, in cramps of fear and ends up ending up with the book. The second part narrates Santiago's past until the moment he leaves Brazilian lands for Portuguese lands, where he establishes an emotional connection with little Alice in which they share a love for stories. Finally, in the third part, we meet Hilário Pena, a guy who sees his life change after being convicted. in the Babel prison he meets Antônio and together they are in charge of discovering the vast knowledge of the library.
That house may have been closed, sold, demolished; but it will never be defeated. For it will never cease to exist in the hearts of those who have tasted its sweetness.
The author's third-person narrative is well-crafted and he is careful to insert the characters' individual thoughts, leading the reader to reach a few of the feelings that touch them., the reading, although it may seem fast, is reflexive and this makes it dense, since there are no ways to detach what we already know about the world and what we live from what consumerism in fiction and in this work it was more present, sounding like a reality not so far away, where what separates the present from a future in which knowledge is circumvented and becomes a kind of taboo, are our own choices and actions. the question of the weight of one's own choices is also portrayed, in which a current is formed, nothing is exactly isolated and this is a fact.
It's a fact, dystopias always mess me up!
